PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) is a natural compound that exists already in your body, and clinical trials show that making up for a shortfall in your body's production may help chronic pain, neuropathic pain, and inflammation. It is available both in capsules (300mg for easiest swallowing) and as a high quality ointment.
There is Amazing Evidence for Use of PEA Capsules for Pain & Inflammation. (Read about Capsules Click Here). Combination of skin cream and capsules appears to have the best effects, but the PEA Cream also can work very well on its own. Let's look at some of the evidence...
Eczema - Study #1 - Research Shows Better Skin Barrier Function (Including Hydration, Transepidermal Water Loss) and Helped To Alleviate Skin Itching.
You can read the whole journal publication here. It does look complicated, but you can go to the conclusion at the end:
"This study shows that, compared with a traditional emollient, regular application of a topical PEA emollient in individuals with mild or moderate AE can significantly improve skin barrier function, increase 5 Hz CPT values, and reduce itching. "
The study says that PEA Cream has the ability to
- Activate immune cells to reduce inflammation
- Affect the sensation at the nerves - so that the itching reduces significantly
- Increases lipid synthesis
- Boost skin regenerative function (for faster healing (and nicer skin?))
Atopic Eczema - Study #2 - Research Shows PEA cream produces reduced pruritus and loss of sleep plus allowed the reduced use of corticosteroids.
You can read the whole study here.
This study showed that PEA Cream allowed patients to:
- Reduce intensity of erythema (redness), pruritus (severe itching), scaling, lichenification (thickened skin) and dryness for a combined score reduction of 58.6% in BOTH adults and children.
- Sleep quality improved significantly
- Topical corticosteroids were reduced by 62% of all patients at study end. (4-6 weeks)
- Reduced pruritus (severe itching) after 6 days treatment from 4.9 to 2.7 on the scale. At end of study (4-6 weeks) the pruritus score was further reduced to 2.0. (59% reduction)
Psoriasis - Study #3 - This study showed that resolution of psoriasis flares can be achieved with PEA cream.
You can read the whole report here.
- Steroid free and safe for all ages.
- Anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing effects
- Cream used twice daily
"PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) is Found In Healthy Breast Milk..."
How Safe is PEA Cream (And Capsules)?
Palmitoylethanolamide is a lipid controller molecule that has anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and analgesic properties. It is found in many plant and animal food, but already exists in the tissues and cells of mammals.
It is also found in healthy breast milk, in tomatoes, corn, and lots in soybeans and soy lecithin.
PEA does not interact with pain relief drugs, so may be used with pain or inflammation relieving medication you may already be using. (Check with your doctor just in case).
With eczema, your skin does not produce enough of it's own PEA. PEA works to reduce inflammation, and if your skin levels are low - you get increased inflammation (it is believed that PEA "turns down" the activity of MAST CELLS. These are the cells that produce inflammatory compounds like histamines and cytokines - these chemicals in our bodies produce swelling, inflammation and itching.
PEA, (which stands for palmitoylethanolamide) has hundreds of positive studies that show that taking it appears to help chronic pain. It seems to "regulate the inflammatory mediators" - which just means PEA might calm or slow the cells responsible for creation of chemicals in our bodies that contribute to "pain". (One group of these cells is called "Mast cells" - that pump out chemicals you will have heard of - like histamines (allergy and pain).)
PEA Cream Can Be a Valuable Tool For Your Skin Health. Or You Can Combine It With PEA Capsules To Give Your Body More...
How to Order PEA Cream or Capsules
- Learn more about PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) Capsules (Click Here)
- What size container will you need? You will need to apply the cream 2 to 4 times per day, and how much you need will depend on the surface area to be covered. The Pump sizes are 50, 100, 150 and 240grams. Our research shows that having more available so you can get great coverage gives the best effects - so we have made the 240gram Pump the best value for you. (So you can get a handle on this - 240 container is about a quarter of a litre!)
- What dose of PEA cream? We have two strengths, 1.5% and 3%. The Double Dose (3%) is available only in the 240gram Pump. There is no evidence that 3% will give better results than 1.5% - but we have been asked for it, and those who get it, like it.
- Combination PEA Capsules & Cream? If you have pain - get both. If your issue is skin related only and not extensive - start with just the cream. If your skin issues are extensive then get both capsules & cream.
- PEA Cream is available WITHOUT a script in Australia.
- Uses for PEA Cream - dozens of conditions have research. From Eczema to Shingles to Pain to Psoriasis to Nappy Rash to Using it for a beauty cream. If you have inflammation or itch or or pain - it can be considered. If an infection - see your doctor! PEA is often used overseas as support for patients undergoing cancer treatments, (as well as the huge list below!)
- The PEA you can get from our pharmacy is identical to that made by your body, which explains in general terms why it is so well tolerated.
These Chronic Pain Conditions/Disorders May Be Receptive to Palmitoylethanolamide PEA:
In Scientific Literature - Researchers Call it a "Special Food for Medical Purposes (R)...

The researchers claim that PEA can reduce "neuroinflammation" (in places like mast cells). But what is really interesting?
PEA Is Found Naturally In Our Bodies - And Belongs To The Class Called "Endo-Anti-Inflammatories"!
But PEA is NOT the same as some regularly used relaxation drugs. "Endo" means internal. And PEA is found in nearly ALL internal tissues of our body as a fatty acid. Our body appears to make PEA when inflammation or tissue damage occurs (24) - and it reduces pain and pruritus (itching).
Despite being a similar looking molecule to some drugs - PEA has no side effects (according to over 350 studies), and is also NOT addictive. And has very strong benefits:
- PEA is also NOT psychoactive - it does not give you any kind of a high. PEA is also found in foods (eggs and milk).
- It can be combined with most pharmaceutical drugs (is good to check with your pharmacist), but no dangerous interactions with other drugs have been found.
- PEA is available WITHOUT a script in Australia. We do suggest you consult with your GP or pain specialist to help guide you on expectations and dosages.
- PEA is often used overseas as support for patients undergoing cancer treatments, (as well as the huge list above!)
- The PEA you can get from our pharmacy is identical to that made by your body, which explains in general terms why it is so well tolerated.
- PEA is safe for use with the elderly and with children. (Although not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there is no safety data.)
PEA is found in eggs, soy, milk and other foods. It is found naturally in our bodies, in almost every cell.
Recommended by many Pain Specialists around Australia, PEA can be safely combined with many drugs.
Now compounded in 300mg capsules (100's) from Caboolture Super Clinic Pharmacy. Order by phone available.
A prescription is NOT required for PEA. Capsules are available in 300mg. This means you take two caps in the morning, two at night. There may be no benefit in continuing beyond 5 weeks if no symptom relief is achieved.
PEA Topical Cream - apply a thin layer on your skin, 1 to 4 times per day.
Patients can take PEA to assist with the relief of chronic pain without needing to cease their usual pain management medications. It is recommended that patients continue to have their condition monitored by their health professional.
